How ClearVerdict Scores Safety Confidence

A verdict of SAFE is only as good as the evidence behind it. Our confidence score makes the evidence quality transparent and quantifiable.

Why a Confidence Score?

Every product we review gets a verdict (SAFE, CAUTION, or TOXIC). But a verdict without evidence is just an opinion. Our Confidence Score (0–100) quantifies how much we trust the evidence behind each verdict.

A product can be "SAFE" with a confidence of 73 (brand claim, no lab report) or 99 (uncoated cast iron, inherently safe by physics). Those are very different situations. The confidence score makes that visible.

Starting Point: 100

Every product starts with a perfect confidence score of 100. Deductions are then applied based on gaps in the evidence.

Deduction Rules

SituationDeduction
No independent third-party lab report published−15 pts
Coating composition not fully disclosed by brand−20 to −35 pts
Only "PFOA-Free" cited, no PFAS/PTFE statement−10 to −15 pts
Misleading branding detected (name/label contradicts chemistry)−10 to −25 pts
Proprietary coating name — composition not independently verifiable−10 to −12 pts

Score Ranges

  • 🟢 80–100: High confidence — strong evidence or inherently safe material
  • 🟡 50–79: Moderate confidence — brand claim with some supporting evidence
  • 🔴 0–49: Low confidence — insufficient public data to verify the verdict
